STRIKE IN GREECE
STRIKE IN GREECE
We want to inform you about the developments concerning the concession of the Port of Piraeus to Cosco Pacific:
Employees (dockworkers, white-collars, technicians etc) of the Port of Piraeus are on strike since 1st of October (the date that Cosco was about to undertake the management of Pier II).
As you may know, on 4th October we had national elections after the resignation of the government. We started our strike on 1st of October as a reaction to the illegal decision of previous government for the concession of Pier II to COSCO Co for 35 yrs and at the same time we started sit-down strike in the offices and premises of our port that are going to be given to COSCO.
This action is targeting to the blockage of any kind of official or unofficial establishment of COSCO in the premises of Piraeus Port Authority.
Ten days since we started our strike and a week after the election of the new government, we have now solution to our demands not even call for dialogs (despite the fact that this government when was opposition declared to review, re-examine and possibly annul the illegal contract).
We will continue our struggle and will be very helpful for us to issue a statement of solidarity and to circulate our update to our colleagues of IDC.
ALSO, WE WOULD ASK ALL IDC AFFILIATES TO HAVE A LOOK AT SHIPPING LINES TO-FROM THE PORT OF PIRAEUS -GREECE, IN CASE FURTHER ACTIONS FOR BLOCKING SHIPS ARE REQUIRED! PLEASE INFORM THE IDC COORDINATION OFFICE IN THIS REGARD!
